Goal

The goal of this grant is to supply students with access to iPads in the classroom, so that they can engage with technological programs that will increase their ability to track their own learning progress in my mathematics class.

What will be done with my students

I have been doing a lot of professional development surrounding Formative Assessment, which allows teachers to gauge where student understanding is at any moment during a lesson. Many tools I've found are technological, and would require that students have access to something handheld, like an iPad. The tools mentioned allow students to submit work to me, receive immediate feedback, in addition to giving us the ability to store the work to revisit at a later date.

Benefits to my students

Having the ability to archive student work, provide immediate feedback, and monitor student work on this level will be beneficial to myself and to my students. It will help students track their overall progress and understanding of the different topics we cover throughout the school year.

Describe the Students

I teach math and science at a Title 1 school, which means that our school services a low socio-economical community (at least 75% are on free and reduced lunch). I teach 42 children throughout the day with varying abilities and diagnoses. Some students are diagnosed with learning disabilities, while others are learning English as a second language. All students would benefit from the engaging tool.

Budget Narrative

I've selected a refurbished iPad on Amazon that would be perfectly suitable for my classroom needs! I am not requesting a class set, because I generally teach my math lessons in small groups. Sometimes the groups are as large as 8 students, so I am requesting enough funds to purchase eight iPads.
