Goal

The goal of this grant is to provide powerful small group literacy instruction for students that are proficient to further their growth and challenge them as young readers and writers by teaching them higher level reading and writing strategies.

What will be done with my students

Using this Literacy Footprints kit students will engage in researched based small group lessons written by literacy expert Jan Richardson. These small groups will provide differentiated teaching and learning opportunities to the diverse learners in my classroom. A range of assessment tools will also be utilized to determine students’ strengths and deficits. This data will be used to place them into small groups that meet their unique instructional needs. This kit will allow me to focus precisely on what each of my students need to learn in order to advance and challenge them. The included texts will provide students with challenges, as well as enough support to read it with a high degree of accuracy and comprehension. Through the use of guided reading and writing this kit can help students learn to problem solve, decode, and deeply comprehend more and more challenging materials. Furthermore the colorful engaging text and scaffolded lessons provided in this guided reading intervention kit can help motivate students to become independent learners who love and want to read.

Benefits to my students

The main benefit of this kit is that it is a researched based program that will help teach children advanced reading and writing strategies. Students will be met at their individual level and be challenged to make further progress while encountering sequenced, high-quality leveled texts in a variety of genres.
