Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to purchase high-quality books for my classroom library. More specifically, I want to focus my purchases on books that are either written and/or illustrated by people of color or feature diverse characters, help students develop a growth mindset, or teach a message for social-emotional skills.

What will be done with my students

These books will be used as mentor texts in ELA lessons, as read-alouds for morning and restorative circles, and for students to use during independent and partner reading. Some of these books will be used across the curriculum for social studies, science, and math.

Benefits to my students

I believe that these books will benefit my current and future students because they represent a wide range of reading levels, topics, and genres. I believe that the selection of books in a classroom sends a message to students. Having a large selection of high-quality texts that are in good condition shows students that reading is valued. The books on this list either reflect each student's own reality and life experiences or open a door for them to learn about other life experiences. I want my students to be exposed to other cultures, time periods, and perspectives as they read. I hope this selection of books will enrich my classroom library and help my students develop their love for reading as well as their reading skills.

Describe the Students

All of my students receive free/reduced lunch. The classroom includes students who are English Language Learners, students with disabilities, and gifted students.

Budget Narrative

The prices are rounded to the nearest dollar from amazon.com. I did not include tax or shipping.
