Goal

The goal of my grant is to facilitate the educational success of my GED students. The majority of my students struggle with the financial requirement that comes along with obtaining a GED diploma. This grant would assist them by paying for their fourth and final test that will make them a graduate.

What will be done with my students

Most of my students are unemployed for various reasons and did not make it through traditional high school. They attend my daytime GED class in hopes of graduating and going to either Pinellas Technical College or St. Petersburg College. All of my current students will be aware of this grant and their eligibility requirement. They must be in attendance 80% of the time and making ample progress towards their goal of graduation (successful completion of the official practice tests).

Benefits to my students

By meeting the attendance requirement and making progress, each student will only be required to pay for three of their official GED tests. This grant will provide their last and final test fee which will make them a graduate. I believe these students deserve every chance and they look up to their teachers as role models. This is YOUR way to help them take the next vital step in their future.

Describe the Students

My classroom consists of students ages 16-24 years old. They are fabulous students who work diligently in class. Most of my students have many financial obligations, but have not been able to find jobs due to their lack of experience (age), lack of transportation and a lack of an adequate education. These same students are also missing parental guidance and look to their teachers as role models. I believe my students, no matter what their obstacle may be, have the capability of going the distance with your help.
