Goal

We are taking an initiative to build a stronger positive cultural community and environment at Thurgood Marshall through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. The program is outlined in our School's Improvement Plan (SIP) with a goal of 100% implementation for a positive behavioral success for the school year!

What will be done with my students

Using the PBIS program, we will hold positive behavior reward events and shopping experiences for students. Through these events and shopping experiences, students will spend positive reward points (earned through PBIS for demonstrating positive behavior in classrooms and around campus) on different events and tangible goods offered with the funding of this grant. For example, students can attend a "Social Event" where they can collaborate with fellow students and participate in community building activities.

Benefits to my students

As stated in our School Improvement Plan, we hope to improve a more positive culture and environment for the students. By providing tangible items, they will focus on school expectations, resulting in more positive behaviors and feeling they are part of the community at school.

Describe the Students

The students are active learners, building caring environments, and demonstrating good character. The students represent a plethora of races from our community: 47% white, 36% African American, 9% Hispanic, 4% Multi-Racial, 4% Asian. Almost 50% of our students come from low income families. We have a mix of gifted students and regular education students. They all have different needs and I believe will show positive growth when provided with the necessary resources.
