Goal

Students in the Arts In Motion, after school art club, will learn life skills through the teaching of fiber arts. Students will be engaged with making art projects using various fiber arts materials.

What will be done with my students

Students in the Arts In Motion club, AIMS, will be introduced to a variety of forms of fiber arts. The after school club meets each Thursday for two hours throughout the school year. Fiber arts encompass every form of creating with fiber and yarn. Students will learn how to hand sew, embroidery, knit, weave, make paper and and create with felting. Students will learn how to use various tools with each fiber arts project.
Students will be able to apply their knowledge of the elements and principles of art in creating works of art using fiber art materials. Students will be able to showcase their works of art in the school's art gallery.

Benefits to my students

20 student and 3 adults, (2 teachers 1 ASL interpreter) wil work with students throughout the school year, in this after school club.
Fiber arts is tactile and often functional. Creating with fiber arts will show students that art can serve a purpose beyond being a thing of beauty and will help connect the value of the arts to art making. Through the fiber arts, students will learn about history, geography, math, science, and art. Students will learn skills and be inspired to want to set down the phone and pick up a needle and thread!!
