Goal

To help special needs students in the ACCESS points wing of the school, reduce disruptive behaviors in their classrooms during instruction.

What will be done with my students

There is has been an influx of ASD scholars and there is currently no space for them to explore sensory needs. So the classroom teachers are spending more time addressing those needs instead of instruction. The plan is to turn the Behavior Specialists classroom into a sensory room for the scholars to be able to enter for breaks during the school day for breaks and to have equipment that they could use in their classrooms for improved focus.

Benefits to my students

Giving them the time and space, they need to regulate their nervous systems, so they are in the optimal position for learning. Helping the teachers provide learning opportunities for all students with minimal behavioral disruptions. The students who do not have the compulsion for sensory development also benefit as their classrooms will be less distracting. There are currently about 15 students who often complain about the disruptions caused by their classmates due to their inability to regulate during long class periods.

Describe the Students

All of our students are ESE in ACCESS points. They are low performers academically. Majority of the ACCESS points have been identified as ASD.
