Goal

The goal is to engage students in a hands-on STEM experience based on Ancient Egypt. The students will investigate the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Arts, and Reading.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to explore the various realms of STEM based on a unit about Ancient Egypt. They will be doing hands-on experiments with pyramids, mummies, Egyptian life, and geography. The students will do plays based on various books about Egypt. The students will use IPads to do research and use the Smartboard for interactive games and lessons.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of this unit is to offer students enrichment outside of the classroom. They will be challenged in many curriculum areas to increase their knowledge of Ancient Egypt. They will also grow as problem solvers and critical thinkers. The students will also have the chance to create projects for our annual school Science Expo in January. This will give them the opportunity for public speaking and being involved in the community.

Describe the Students

The students involved in this STEM unit are high performing first, second and third graders. The students did not qualify for the Gifted program but have been identified as high achieving students who need to be challenged outside of the classroom setting.
