Goal

The staff of Azalea Middle School are humbly requesting funds to continue to operate our Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) school store, which is known at our school as the "Black Knight Chivalry" (BKC) Store.

What will be done with my students

Throughout each day and all classes at Azalea Middle, students that are exhibiting our three guidelines for success: respect, responsibility, and safety, can earn "school money". This school money can then be used in our PBIS School store for a variety of fun items! The school store is offered two times a week all school year long at all three lunches (for all three-grade levels) and students can purchase up to two items each visit. Last school year, we had over 3,500 student customers at our school store. So far this school year, we have had a total of 1,500 student customers.

Benefits to my students

Our PBIS initiatives here at Azalea Middle School, continue to motivate students to abide by our guidelines for success, monitor their own behaviors, show effort and dedication in their classes, as well as reward extremely deserving students that are consistently responsible, respectful, and safe. The expected outcomes overall would be that students' grades, attendance, and academic achievement level would increase, while negative referrals and behaviors would decrease.

Describe the Students

We are a Title I school (77.3% free/reduced lunch) and the largest zoned middle school in Pinellas County. Currently, we have a total of 680 students. Furthermore, we have an ESE population of 167 students. 50% of our school population has low test scores and over 30% of our students are accruing high absences. The racial demographics of our students are as follows:

Asian: 18 students (2.6%)
Black: 326 students (47.9%)
Hispanic: 99 students (14.6%)
Multiracial: 30 students (4.4%)
White: 207 students (30.4%)

Budget Narrative

The staff of Azalea Middle School are asking for $2,500 to supply and maintain our school store (students use school money they earn to attend this school store), so that we can continue to motivate our students to attend school daily, to engage in learning and tasks, and to monitor their own behavior; as well display our school's guidelines for success: respect, responsibility, and safety.
