Goal

My goal is to give my Kindergarten students different opportunities for seating in our classroom. Giving students the choice of seating will increase student engagement and academic performance as traditional classroom seating does not work best for everyone.

What will be done with my students

I currently have one wobble stool and 3 scoop rockers that are very popular in my classroom. I would like to add more seating options to my classroom as I can see a difference with some of my more wiggly students staying on task. Since I have such few flexible seating options, my wiggliest students use these the most, but all of my students want to use the different seating options to be comfortable.
The seating would remain in my classroom to be used each year.

Benefits to my students

These seating options would benefit all my students by providing them choice to sit where they would learn best. This would especially help my ADHD and wiggly students as it is difficult for them to stay seated without distracting others near them. This will help students stay engaged with their learning instead of feeling uncomfortable on our carpet or in their regular chair.

Describe the Students

My general education Kindergarten class is in a Title I school. I have a mix of learners that are ESE, ESOL, and not yet identified as it is their first time in a school setting. I also have some learners that are very advanced and are being tested for gifted.
