Goal

The goal is to give students the choice in what kind of learning space they need that works the best for them. Flexible seating will allow students to work collaboratively and engage in communication and critical thinking.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to choose their flexible seating while working at their desk, on the carpet and any area in the classroom. They will be able to have the choice of their seating while participating in whole class instruction, small group and individual work. They will be allowed to choose their own seating as long as they are safe and their classmates are as well. Once students learn how to use each seating option, this will be permanently integrated into the classroom.

Benefits to my students

Students know how they learn the best and being able to choose if they want to stand at their desk, lay on the carpet to read or sit in a certain chair to improve their concentration. Allowing the classroom to meet student needs will impact their learning , how they interact with each other and the whole classroom experience. When students are comfortable and focused on their learning, this will allow more flexibility for small teacher led groups.

Describe the Students

My students are at a Title 1 school and in a general education classroom with ESOL and ESE students. There are both high and low performing students as well as students learning how to regulate their emotional needs.
