To provide access to curriculum and increase communication opportunities to neurodivergent students in the classroom and in school activities.
Small communication devices (switches) can be programmed and reprogrammed in real time to provide students with limited communication abilities the ability to participate in conversations, make choices, interact with their environment, and access the curriculum.
Students with limited communication will be able to participate in academic and social opportunities by using simple switches that provides a voice output. In essence, this gives limited verbal communicators a voice. Switches supplement picture supports and provides a verbal model for communication. Limited communicators will be able to interact with peers throughout the school building during shared activities such as recess, lunch, and specials. This also increases awareness and acceptance for diverse communication modalities. Teachers can program switches so that students can access the curriculum for activities such as one to one correspondence for counting, retelling stories, and expressing needs, wants, and emotions.
Students accessing the switches are considered ESE students who have difficulty communicating for academic and social purposes.
Items chosen would be used in 5 different classroom, across the school building, and with 2 different speech language pathologists. Ablenet provides a 2 year warranty.
