To create engaging class activities that are standards driven, inclusive, and equitable for EL, ESE, 504, and ESSA groups.
I will use the escape room tools and BreakoutEDU online games to actively engage students in learning new content and referring back to old content. Students are encouraged to collaborate and problem-solve using their acquired knowledge while trying to "escape".
Students of all academic abilities can participate in escape room activities and digital games which are aligned to standards. Students will learn new content though a unique method that encourages individual critical thinking and 21st century skills such as teamwork and collaboration. Every learner can bring a new perspective, or a skill set to help the greater good of the team. Students will be exposed to quick mental math, puzzles, and leadership skills. Learners can show off their strengths and feel good about their contributions to the team and their individual learning.
My students range from EL, ESE, 504, AP, to IB. This resource can help support the needs of all of my students in sociology, psychology, AP Psychology, and IB History.
Breakout EDU, will provide constructive challenges that build engaged and capable learners. Their library of standards-aligned games, I can create a learner-centered experience that allows students to work as a team, collaborate, think conceptually, and utilize prior knowledge for deeper comprehension. Breakout EDU allows students to be center-stage in their learning with hands-on lessons. Critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills are fostered every time students play Breakout EDU. While working with peers, players actively use soft skills which help them create connections in and out of the classroom. Wherever learners are in their educational journey, there is a Breakout EDU activity for them. The Pigpen Cipher is a substitution cipher that uses symbols to represent each letter in the alphabet. It was used by American colonists during the 18th century and will be used as a decoder in an escape room. The Pigpen Cypher is a geometric simple substitution cipher, which exchanges letters for symbols which are fragments of a grid. The example key shows one way the letters can be assigned to the grid to help students break clues to the escape room.
