Goal

6th Graders learn best by engaging in hands-on activities such as educational games, flash cards, puzzles and other manipulatives. This will bring U.S. History alive for my students! My ultimate goal is to make learning fun for my students! When they smile and learn, I smile and learn!

What will be done with my students

My students will have weekly opportunities to engage with hands-on learning materials related to our standards and curriculum for U.S. History. 6th graders respond very well to activities such as educational games which can be played in a small group, and individually or with a partner. Our students also enjoy learning by completing puzzles with a partner or independently. There are some amazing resources available which will enhance cooperative learning and will make the learning of U.S. History more enjoyable for all students. Write on/wipe off Maps, puzzles, games featuring our beautiful U.S.A. will bring U. S. History alive for my students!

Benefits to my students

The students will benefit through learning in an enjoyable atmosphere where individual differences are celebrated. The above-mentioned learning opportunities will help each and every child to be successful. For example, perhaps a student struggles to read the U. S. History textbook. He or she had success in class today because he/she worked in a team to play a learning game about our first presidents or the 13 colonies. The students will develop historical thinking skills through engagement with exciting activites!

Describe the Students

Many of my students have special needs, such as: ELL, English Language Learners, ESE, and low performance on test scores. Many of my students have 504 plans and special accommodations which must be provided in the classroom. Many of my students are high performers in the classroom, but struggle to perform well on tests. Many students these days struggle with school anxiety, test anxiety and other issues related to their home situation. I want my students to be excited to come to school and to feel welcome and celebrated and valued in my classroom, regardless of their special needs and circumstances
