Goal

My goal is to be able to provide each of my students with a mini whiteboard. This whiteboard will be used during all aspects of our day. Individual whiteboards will help students in all aspect of learning, as it will be used to conduct more hands on learning.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to use their whiteboards when we are doing Language Arts as well as during Math instruction. Students will be asked to write certain things on the board during instruction time. Students may be asked to write words, make words, create math problems and solve math problems.

Benefits to my students

Each student will have a whiteboard that they will use daily. Boards will be brought to the carpet or used at desks depending on the subject/lesson. Students will gain more practice with writing and will be able to see themselves as writers, readers and thinkers. Reading and writing skills will see improvement as students are working hands on daily to improve their writing skills as well as seeing how to build and form words/letters.

Using whiteboards can also help to boost a students confidence level. By using boards students do not have to verbally give and answer; all answers will be displayed on the boards.

The magnetic feature of this board allows it to be more versatile than a regular board. Students will be able to use their boards during literacy/math centers or small group work to build words or math problems using magnetic letters or numbers.

Describe the Students

My students are a great bunch. I have mixed levels of academic ability. I currently have 6 students performing below grade level in reading, 4 performing at grade level and 8 who are meeting end of the year expectations in reading.
Several of my students struggle with writing, they are making backward letters, or unable to write legibly.
I do have an ESOL student, who speaks very limited English.

Budget Narrative

The items listed are needed to fully be able to incorporate whiteboard work into our daily routine. Each child would need their own whiteboard and their own marker. The markers I have found come with an eraser on the cap. I am asking for two sets of markers as they do tend to dry out or get lost very easily in the hands of a 6 or 7 year old!

I am also asking for a set of magnetic numbers and letters. These would be used in centers and small group work to add another dimension of hands on work.
