My goal using the Kimochi curriculum is to establish healthy feelings and behaviors with all Kindergarten and 1st grade students as they interact with one another as well as handling life's challenges. Through these regular lessons, I will create a common language of respect and positive character among these students and within our school. Children will effectively communicate feelings, build confidence, self-esteem, strong relationships and the foundations for academic success and social and emotional intelligence.

Goal

My goal using the Kimochi curriculum is to establish healthy feelings and behaviors with all Kindergarten and 1st grade students as they interact with one another as well as handling life's challenges. Through these regular lessons, I will create a common language of respect and positive character among these students and within our school. Children will effectively communicate feelings, build confidence, self-esteem, strong relationships and the foundations for academic success and social and emotional intelligence.

What will be done with my students

I will provide all Kindergarten and 1st grade students with monthly lessons using the Kimochi curriculum. Using this curriculum, I will introduce healthy feelings and appropriate behaviors when interacting with others and handling life's difficult situations. Systematic steps will be taught through these lessons with fun, hands on characters as well as visuals and parents take home information. Small groups will be provided for students who need additional social - emotional skills, and even one-on-one help can be provided using this curriculum.

Benefits to my students

Research with Kimochis shows tremendous positive change and effects with students! A common language of feelings and respect is formed and used throughout classrooms and all student interaction. This common language of respect creates environments where children feel valued and connected. Parents also receive information to keep the lessons and language alive at home. By reaching all Kindergarten students and all 1st grade students, this social skill development will help set a foundation with these students as they learn how to interact positively with others.

Describe the Students

I will use the Kimochi curriculum with all Kindergarten and 1st grade students, including ESE and high and low academic performers. Small group opportunities will be offered using Kimochis to further enhance these social skills with students who have a harder time using positive words and handling social interactions appropriately.
