Goal

At Madeira we want to expand our elective options to out students. To do this we are starting a introduction to woodshop class.

What will be done with my students

In this introductions to woodshop class we are going to be learning a whole bunch of useful skills. The purpose of the class is to provide foundational skills in woodworking. These skills will include cutting, measuring, marking properly, reading plans, basic joinery, sanding, finishing, and assembly of projects. In class we will put these skills to practice by completing individual and group projects.

Benefits to my students

This grant will benefit the students by providing materials they will use to build and learn throughout the year. We are looking for funding from a variety of different sources to come together to benefit the kids.

During this yearlong program we are going to start with introductory project to build skills, and then move to more advanced projects that they will do as a team or individually.

I do not see any reason why 6-8th grade student cannot make large quality projects.

Describe the Students

At Madeira we have a full range of students who are interested in woodworking. In a survey of my current (non woodworking) students more than 75% expressed interested in joining the class. These were kids from all demographics.

Budget Narrative

We will use any donated money to purchase direct to the kids materials that they will use every day. The lumber, stains, and finishes will be put in their hands to use and make a variety of items.

# Item Cost
1 Lumber $1,000.00
2 Stain and Finish $100.00
3 Tools $100.00
4 Shop Consumables $100.00
  Total: $1,300.00
