Goal

The goal of this project is to provide the students that I service with additional support and resources in literacy and learning.

What will be done with my students

The S.P.I.R.E. intervention kit will be used on a daily basis with many of my students during our designated reading and literacy intervention time. We are extremely grateful that we could purchase the Beginner kit with a generous grant, and are looking to expand with two additional levels. S.P.I.R.E. includes many levels and lessons that can be used again and again as students progress and new students arrive at the school.

Benefits to my students

S.P.I.R.E. is a complete, intensive intervention for nonreading students, struggling readers, and students with
disabilities. In addition, S.P.I.R.E. uses multisensory strategies and processes to ensure that all students can learn and grow. My students will obtain or progress skills in the elements of reading: phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The lessons are intensive, structured, and review previously taught skills that will positively impact all learners.

Describe the Students

My students have my heart. They are the sweetest kids I have ever met, and they DESPERATELY want to make learning gains and to be successful. My school has a high population of English language learners, as well as a mixture of other students, such as students with disabilities, and low and high performers.

As a reading interventionist, I specifically work with students who struggle in literacy, particularly those who have not seen much growth or progress within the core curriculum and require additional, intensive support.

My school draws from a very low-income community, and due to the financial status of the area and the student population, all students receive free lunch! My school is very lucky to receive Title I funding and corporate donations, and our students are so grateful. High Point is a positive, beautiful, safe environment for children to learn in and I know that our students would be so appreciative of these materials!
