This project is meant to help our students within my classroom and the building learn job skills about fresh water fish and their ecosystem. We will be purchasing fish to add to a tank that we have. This will also incorporate job skills for my students through checking on the fish and tank while learning about jobs related to working with pet and fish supplies and companies.

Goal

This project is meant to help our students within my classroom and the building learn job skills about fresh water fish and their ecosystem. We will be purchasing fish to add to a tank that we have. This will also incorporate job skills for my students through checking on the fish and tank while learning about jobs related to working with pet and fish supplies and companies.

What will be done with my students

Our programs mission is to teach students job skills that they can relate to real world employment. We are looking for ways that we can get the students involved when they need a break from the stressors of their job tasks. Sometimes they need a mental break, or to step away. Each of my students have special needs; they learn differently and react to things differently. I want to create a calming environment where they can regroup. Having a fish tank near an entryway with seating will give them such at outlet and continue to involve them in learning experiences. The goal is to give my class something unique that they can use for years to come and be a focal point for other staff to enjoy.

Ever want to see a a place where special needs students can have an area to learn and support their individual needs? Well my students want to learn, and look forward to gaining job skills so they can earn their own money and hopefully get a job and gain independent living someday. My program helps to support their needs, enrich their learning experiences, and help them with their social and emotional needs. Fulfilling this project will help make this happen for us. Thank you in advanced for ALL your generosity.

Benefits to my students

My students help with various jobs around the facility. Many of my students have limited language, and just have a hard time expressing themselves, their needs, and their feelings. My students love to do work that will benefit our facility. It is nice to get them out and help within the building wide jobs that our class supports. We are looking for a way to further help, support, and give back to our program.

Have you ever seen someone with special needs and wanted to help them by making a difference? My students all have needs that are extensive with varied supports. Our students process things differently physically and mentally. They need certain supports in their educational learning at an extended transition program for ESE students. As their teacher, I like to get them out of our classroom and keep them active. This project's goal is to give my students a place to reflect and enjoy the peace that comes with live and varied fish and the tasks to manage it.

Describe the Students

I have a classroom of students with varied special needs in an Extended Transition program for exceptional student education (ESE).

Budget Narrative

This project includes a variety of freshwater fish to be used between two 55-gallon fish tanks. These fish tanks are on display for the students and staff to enjoy. In addition, we need a filter and pump and artificial supplies for one of the 2 tanks. These fish will give the students and building years of enjoyment.
