Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

This grant made an amazing impact on our students by giving them an experience that many students in their situation will never have. Students were able to see and touch real life space crafts and machinary. While students learn about space in the classroom now they will be able to put an experience with the knowledge learned in the classroom. Students were able to experence what is like on a space craft and learn about the history first hand from real life sized models and simulators. This field trip will be remembered by all of our students. Thank you!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The 5th grade teachers would like to take our top scoring science students to Kennedy Space Center to celebrate their academic success and to have them experience authentic NASA science.

What will be done with my students

Students come face-to-face with Space Shuttle Atlantis®, explore the massive 363 foot-long Saturn V moon rocket at the Apollo/Saturn V Center, tour NASA's spaceflight operations, interact with immersive simulators and exhibits.

Benefits to my students

Students will be learning through authentic NASA science, technology, engineering and math. Standards that were taught in 5th grade will be magnified with this trip and students will be able to experience first hand through hands on interactions.

Describe the Students

Most of the students have a low socioeconomic status and despite their challenges have preservered and worked hard academically to be the top in their class on the 5th grade science assessment.

Budget Narrative

Students will need transportation to Kennedy Space Center from St. Petersburg which is estimated to be $600. Each ticket costs $17 and each lunch voucher costs $15. For 20 students to attend the field trip it will cost $1240.00
