One of my goals as the Family & Community Liaison is to offer our Take Stock In Children mentees a welcoming space to meet with their mentors. I would like to provide fun and engaging games, activities and conversation starters to TSIC mentors and mentees to use during their mentor sessions. Goal

One of my goals as the Family & Community Liaison is to offer our Take Stock In Children mentees a welcoming space to meet with their mentors. I would like to provide fun and engaging games, activities and conversation starters to TSIC mentors and mentees to use during their mentor sessions. I would also like to provide each mentee with their own headphones to use during virtual visits with their mentor.

What will be done with my students

TSIC mentees meet with their mentor once per week during the mentees lunch time. Offering a quiet space for the mentee to meet with their mentor. Having different tools allows mentors and mentees to connect in a variety of ways. Creating a bond that last during the school year and will continue school year after school year.

Benefits to my students

Having a mentor is beneficial to TSIC mentees because it provides another/or different adult voice helping and guiding them through middle school and high school years. The TSIC mentor works with the TSIC mentee on personal and academic goals. TSIC mentees are college bound scholars. The TSIC mentors are interested helping their mentee be successful in that journey.

Describe the Students

TSIC mentee are selected by the Pinellas Education Foundation in an application process. My role as the liaison facilitating these mentor meetings is the key to maintaining the minimum meetings per school year. Having different activities for mentors and mentees would open the communication avenues while connecting in new ways. I personally feel mentees are more open with mentors when there is a bit of "distraction" happening in the background. For example it maybe easier for a mentee to open up to a mentor while playing a card game together. Even something like adult coloring while chatting can help with initial getting to know you awkwardness.
