Goal

We would like to have an informative eveing about the cultures represented here at Hollins high. We want to feature various cultural dishes to try, information about a specific holiday for that culture, how to say "Hello" in their native language. Also, there will be areas to play games; such as trivia about cultures and school subjects,. Also , festive music with chances to learn various dances.

What will be done with my students

Students will be developing the menus and then researching cultural holidays to be described. Also, they will ask their teachers for various subject questions for the trivia game. Cultural questions will be researched. They will write up recipes for the dishes served and compile a cookbook.

Benefits to my students

This benefits many students in the school, especially ESOL students to help them showcase their culture. It will help students grow understanding of the other cultures and how we are alike in many ways. It will help promote inclusion and new friendship among students. It will help them review subject matter from school through trivia.

Describe the Students

Hollins is a diverse school. We have an ESE population, an ESOL population as well as a community of AVID and AICE students. Most the time students stay within their groups which sometimes causes problems; even fights. We would like to promote a nonviolent platform that displays unity. Finally we would like to invite the surrounding community to take part in our celebration of culture and knowledge.

Budget Narrative

This is an estimate for food costs. We may have more cultures to add when students come back from break with cultural recipes. Also, we will make posters for each booth about the food and holiday. Some teachers have volunteered to do dance lessons.
