What will be done with my students

Hold school-wide HOPS day field trips for grades 3 through 5. Hops is Hands-on Problem Solving. Our gifted students have participated in this program for the past several years as well as grades 3-5 for the past 3 years. HOPS is a highly structured, creative, exciting, intellectually challenging, thought-provoking competitive event. It is designed to encourage creative safe and non-threatening risk-taking.

Benefits to my students

Student participation in Hands-on Problem Solving (HoPS) will support the following areas of our strategic directions: high student achievement, college, and career readiness, and equity and excellence for all. The success of the program will be monitored through a pretest and a post-test. Through our professional learning, community (PLC) teachers will develop follow-up cooperative and team-building exercises for students. Long-term success will show in increased test scores, ability to work in a group, and student perseverance.
