Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Suncoast Credit Union - $773.50
The purpose of this trip is to immerse students in grade-level objectives / curriculum for our Holocaust Unit.
Students will participate in a docent-led tour for 2 hours, learning about the Holocaust.
There are multiple ways to learn new concepts in which one has no background knowledge. As a teacher, I can provide the videos for the visual learners and the discussions for the auditory/verbal processors, but for the scholars that learn through experience or can deepen their understanding through experience, they would need this trip. For the scholars that are native to St. Petersburg, only a handful have been to the museum and even less even know of it's existence. This trip would allow our scholars to educate themselves on the injustices of the past to prevent further tragedies from occurring and allow them to expand their outlook on life by traveling just down the street.
Fairmount Park Elementary is one of the lowest performing schools in the district across all curriculums. For the year 2020-21, our reading proficiency for 5th grade was 5%, meaning only 5% of 70 scholars were able to read and comprehend on a 5th grade level.
For the year 2021-22, we have about 15 scholars that are ESE. 70% of our scholars are below reading proficiency.
The budget would cover the admission to the museum for the group rate of students and chaperones and the rental for the bus.
