Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
CEC - $250.00
I work with Extended Transition students that are based out of Paul B. Stephens.
My students work on a variety of job skills throughout the day that include, but are
not limited, to: time management, staying on task, meeting deadlines, teamwork and
some leadership skills. They work on these skills while performing a variety of jobs
around Paul B. Stephens and Bernice Johnson. The jobs include window washing,
sanitizing the handrails and door knobs throughout the school, beautifying the
grounds around the school and the Bernice Johnson building with plants and
additional landscaping. My goal is to help the students work through a task from beginning to end with perseverance and determination, even if they do not like the work. I want the students to appreciate the work, when finished, and be be proud of a difficult task completed and looking fabulous!
My objective, through classroom teaching and hands-on experience, is to give my
students a sense of success and accomplishment resulting from hard work and
attention to details. I will be working side-by-side with them to demonstrate and
teach the importance of planning, preparing, and executing tasks involving landscaping from start to finish. I hope to build their stamina and ability to push through a difficult task, as well as increasing their comfort level in multiple job skills in an effort to equip them for a productive job in their community.
I will measure their success through continued observation, frequent written
documentation, along with photos to support the progress. My data will include the
growth in their abilities to follow the sequence of specific directions; to increase the
time spent on each task; to work as a team; to perform a task on a set schedule; to
overcome "roadblocks"; to be problem solvers rather than problem makers; and to see
the project through to completion with pride. We have several areas on campus that we are currently "beautifying", these plants will allow us to continue to to create a more visually appealing place to come to school and/or work. Landscaping is a large on-going part of this program, we work on getting the land ready for planting and then planting, followed by mulching and decorative touches such as border rocks and flags.
I work with Extended Transition students. They are ages 18 to 22 years and all have an IEP. We work on independent living skills, work skills, employability skills, communication and social skills throughout each day. They range in ability from ready to get a job to requiring step by step instructions for each task.
We will use the funds for palm trees, flowering plants and other non-flowering plants. We are allocating $125.00 for palm trees, $100.00 for flowering plants and $25.00 for other non-flowering plants.
