The goal is to obtain the resources to integrate music curriculum, using real-world connections to better serve scholars.
Scholars will read and make connections with past and present musicians and composers. Understanding their personal stories will enhance music performances. An integrated curriculum will be used permanently in the music department at Melrose Elementary to close the gap in learning.
This grant connects currently to music curriculum standards for the county, state, and across the nation.
The expected outcomes for these activities is to increase fluency, comprehension, and musicianship skills. Teachers will benefit from core skills reinforced through music. Scholars will benefit from learning to play, read and comprehend more than music notation.
Scholars at Melrose Elementary comprise of ESE, low academic performers along with high and/or average academic scholars. Often times, classes such as music is where they shine the most with high success. The vision of Melrose Elementary School is to become a progressive educational institution fostering high levels of achievement for all students in all areas.
The funds received from the grant will be spent on instruments, audio equipment and books.
