Goal

To purchase glass to be able to introduce my students to stained glass techniques and art making.

What will be done with my students

My students will be able to experience the art of stained glass, which is not typically introduced in most art programs. They will be able to make sun catchers, tea lights, ornaments, mobiles and jewelry with the techniques that I will show them in class. Students will learn how to properly create templates, cut glass, grind glass, and build both 2dimensional and 3dimensional projects using glass as a medium.

Benefits to my students

This new program I am building will help diversify the materials and techniques our students learn to create art. Stained glass is still a very widely used art form, but a lot of art teachers do not know how to use it or teach it and therefore not a single school in our district uses stained glass in their curriculum, but I work with it on my own and am able to share that love of glass with my students. It could spark a love of stained glass in my students and present another possible art career option for art students.

Describe the Students

Our student body consists of 9th through 12th graders. We typically have a range of low to high performing students, probably on the higher end of performance in art. Our students perform well in county wide art shows and will benefit from this advanced art making technique.

Budget Narrative

I need glass to get my program running. I have already purchased most of the equipment needed like glass grinders, soldering irons, glass cutting mats, etc., but every stained glass program needs a variety of colored glass panels to use for projects. Glass costs vary depending on the size and color of the glass.
