Goal

Our goal is to increase the collection of library books about money and financial literacy in our school's Media Center. We would also like to incorporate financial literacy activities in our Media Center's Makerspace.

What will be done with my students

The students will have the opportunity to check out the books about financial literacy in our media center. All classrooms K-5 come to the Media Center for check out books on a two week rotation. With the grant, our media center would aquire new books, fiction and non-fiction and on a variety of reading levels, that would be available for all students. These books will be ordered for Follett, a publisher of Library-Bound books. These books are made to last and be used by many students. These books would be displayed on their own shelf for students to access easily.
In addition to the book collection, this grant would allow us an opportunity to aquire some materials for our Makerspace area. Our Makerspace allows students to interact with real world learning. The students would be able to experience the concepts of financial literacy using "money" and cash registers. This will allow them to put their learning into action.

Benefits to my students

This grant would benefit all of the students at Bardmoor Elementary. Every student would have access to these books and materials on a consistent basis. Teachers will also be able to use these resources with their students on enhance financial literacy and math lessons.
I have also included several bilingual books to help support our English Language Learners who speak Spanish.

Describe the Students

We are a Title 1 school. We have 22 general education classrooms (k-5) and 4 ASD classes for students with Austism. We have several students who are English Language Learners, primarily Spanish speakers.

Budget Narrative

With this funding, I would be purchasing library-bound books from Follett for $619.58. I have copied the quote from Follett below. I would also be purchasing two Learning Resources Pretend and Play Calculator Cash Registers from Amazon.com at a price of $20 each plus tax. I have also included $40 for materials for the students in using these materials. This would include paper, dry erase markers, and other school supplies that the would need when working the books and makerspace items.
