Goal

Our goal is to support and assist students in being able to pay for their GED exam. The funds will be used for students that have scored the passing score or above on the practice GED exam, but are unable to afford the expense of completing the process due to the cost of each subject area exam.

What will be done with my students

Students that have demonstrated the passing score for the state GED exam will be afforded the opportunity to take the official exam. Once a student shows that they are ready for the official exam, the funds will be used to pay the fee of the official exam. Readiness will be demonstrated by the passing scores on the practice GED exams.

Benefits to my students

Obtaining a GED is a life changing positive experience. Students that obtain their GED have the world opened up to them in many ways. The initial journey might have been fueled by a desire to change jobs or by the desire to complete a personal journey.

Describe the Students

Students range from lower level ESE students, to students that have dropped out of traditional school due to the lack of interest, family obligations, students that have entered the workforce in minimum wage jobs or positions. They all have in common the increased need and desire to obtain their GED for themselves or to be more of a role model for their children. The cost is a deterrent when the students do not have an excess of funds. Their will is not lessened by the fact that they are unable afford the extra expense of the GED fee. The students have done the work but the fee is keeping them from completing their journey to obtain their GED. Most students range from 16 to 50 years old from all types of backgrounds.
