Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 519

Every classroom teacher in our school receives a book of the month with a lesson plan to share with their class. These books then become a part of the classroom library.  This provides the students with a connection across classrooms and helps to create a sense of community through literacy within the school building. Not only do students enjoy listening to teacher read alouds, but they often become a favorite book for students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To create a school wide culture that connects all students through literacy.

What will be done with my students

Every classroom will receive a book of the month with an activity or lesson plan that will be delivered by the teacher.

Benefits to my students

The book of the month creates a connection among students as each classroom receives a copy of the book with questions or activities for the class to complete. Each book is chosen to teach students about a common topic such as kindness or bravery. Whether they are friends or siblings, students from other grade levels will be able to share a common connection in school through literacy.

Describe the Students

Seventy-Fourth Street has a diverse population of low SES students. Our school has self-contained ASD as well as ESE resources students.

Budget Narrative

Collaborating with a group of teachers we will compile a list of books to purchase for the book of the month.
