The goal of this grant is to enhance scholar creativity, visual literacy, and divergent thinking. Creating more innovating art projects and experiences will establish skills scholars can build upon as artists, which will benefit them throughout their education and future careers. Capitalizing on this opportunity, I'd like to offer the opportunity to expand the visual art content knowledge and provide more success in the visual arts.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 402

Scholars created many projects with the materials provided through this grant. I was able to present at the National Art Education Association Conference in Boston and share Melrose scholar artworks created with the fluorescent materials. Scholars greatly enjoyed the projects and seeing their works when complete. At the end of the year, I purchased black lights and had a "glow" art show.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to enhance scholar creativity, visual literacy, and divergent thinking. Creating more innovating art projects and experiences will establish skills scholars can build upon as artists, which will benefit them throughout their education and future careers. Capitalizing on this opportunity, I'd like to offer the opportunity to expand the visual art content knowledge and provide more success in the visual arts.

What will be done with my students

Scholars will participate and create culturally relevant projects of painting, sewing, and mixed media. They will create artistic opportunities that are exciting to scholars and allow them to use mediums that are against the norm.

Benefits to my students

This grant will benefit my scholars by allowing for more creative opportunities and allowing them to use media that goes above and beyond the artistic norm. This grant will also allow for more design thinking and S.T.E.A.M inspired projects.

Describe the Students

The scholars at Melrose comprise of ESE, low academic performers, and some high academic performing scholars. Many of whom, ( both low and high academic performing scholars) are those that are experiencing high levels of success via visual arts.
