As an ESOL teacher, my goal is to build confidence in students that are often times shy, insecure, and afraid to make mistakes. Since English is my students' second language, they need a lot of practice with vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

My students love the supplies we recently received from Lakeshore! My 3rd graders particularly love the Match & Sort Language Quickies. They have been improving on their reading comprehension, making inferences, and finding main idea/details. My Kindergarteners are using the English Language Development cards to improve their writing, decoding, listening, and speaking and love their new erasers!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

As an ESOL teacher, my goal is to build confidence in students that are often times shy, insecure, and afraid to make mistakes. Since English is my students' second language, they need a lot of practice with vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension.

What will be done with my students

I will use the Lakeshore Learning resources to teach K-5 students in small group. Most of these resources are geared specifically for English Language Learners and aligned with common core standards. I will work with my students in small group in and out of their classrooms. I also plan to send some activities home so they can continue their learning with their families.

Benefits to my students

These resources will help the students develop their reading comprehension skills, encourage them to think critically, and learn to enjoy reading. For the students that are arriving to our school with little or no English, the activities will help them learn essential vocabulary in a fun and exciting way!

Describe the Students

At our school, we have 68 ESOL students from countries around the world. For example, our students are from Vietnam, Iraq, Israel, Columbia, and Honduras and speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Cambodian, Tagolog, etc. In addition, our school is a title 1 school and many of our students are low income and low performing.

Budget Narrative

These are reading and writing resources mostly from Lakeshore Learning and would benefit all grade level ESOL students.
