Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 19

Students were able to keep their materials and study cards organized this year. They were able to consistently practice their multiplication facts without wasting time looking for lost materials. All of my students benefited from the organizational tools, especially my students that have difficulty staying focused and attentive. These students typically lose important resources that get in the way of being successful in class. This year they were able to keep their materials organized and in one place with was a huge support for them.

Students tracked their math progress and set goals to achieve on their upcoming assessments. I was impressed with how seriously they took their goals. Immediately after and assessment they would want to know their score so they could track their progress. It motivated them to do better and beat their goals.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to help students organize their learning materials and track their math progress. Students will get to see their math growth using their Math Learning Binder. Students will gain greater confidence in themselves as mathematicians.

What will be done with my students

Each students will have a Math Binder to keep track of the math learning for the year. Each week they will choose assignments and activities that highlight the learning that has taking place and add it to their Math L They can choose assignments that they want to show growth in, or assignments that highlighted success in a troubling area. Our class is deep rooted in growth mindset. Students have already grown so much in the first 5 days of school, this will give them a way to keep track of their learning.
The spiral bound index cards will give students an opportunity to write and practice their multiplication facts at school and at home. They will be able to practice on their own and with a friend.
The students will be able to quickly sharpen their pencils, which currently causes a distraction due to small hand-held pencil sharpeners, and pencil filings that are continuously falling on the floor.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of Math Learning binders is that students that feel like they are not good at math will be able to see how much they have learned and grown in such a short amount to time. It will help students move from the mindset of "I can't" to "I can't do it....yet."
It will also help students to maintain organization, which is a lifelong struggle for many of my students.
And most importantly it will help keep students engaged and on task because they will be self-motivated to add their work to their learning binder.
