Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 20

Our students are those who struggle outside of school and have limited or no interactions with successful and or positive mentors. We model the success we want our students to produce. Having the right equipment allows us to provide hands on, industry relevant information and experiences. Most importantly, with this donation students are able to contine to bridge they gap between success and struggle. My students thrive when giving hands on items to work with and construct.  Allowing my students to complete multi-step projects is the best way to evalute their learning gains.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to show students, that in every class you can find a relevant use of/for technology. This 9 weeks we are focusing on how Mathematics drives technology.

What will be done with my students

Students will use industry relevant tools and equipment to gain an understanding of how Mathematics and Technology co-exist. Students will problem solve not just equations using Technology from specific time periods, but they will also construct and manufacture items in a 3D and physical world.

Benefits to my students

The overall benefit would be that our student would see more than one way to solve a problem. Not just a mathematical equation, but problems pertaining to Data Analytics, Web Design, Coding, Robotics, Art, Music, and just everyday life. Our students are in great need of motivation and awareness. They are stuck in a cycle that seems to constantly have an unsuccessful outcome.

Describe the Students

More than 80% of our students are on Free or Reduced Lunch and are in the lower Socio-economic Status. The highest population consists of African American Males. Our ESE population is higher than most schools with the same number of students. Most of our students are low performers statistically and on paper, but after relationship building many of them are just unmotivated. Our student population is a mix of students from schools across the district. Students are placed here after a zero tolerance offense.

Budget Narrative

These items will be used in conjunction with software and lesson plans that are available to us. These items will allow students to have industry relevant experience and knowledge about current equipment and programs.
