Goal

Provide an engaging experience to help students retain knowledge more effectively by being an active participant in their learning.

What will be done with my students

The Virtual Reality (VR) System will be located in our new STEM-focused media center, for access to all students in our community. With this VR system, the students will be able to immerse themselves in several experiences that can transport them to new places, strengthen vocabulary around a topic, or build background knowledge to support their classroom learning.

Benefits to my students

Many of our students' world view is limited to our local community and field trips are often limited by cost and distance. VR field trips are a great way to build empathy for communities in difficult situations by immersing into that reality and a way to time travel to key places in history. It is also a great way to learn how VR can be used in other industries, such as entertainment, medicine, and engineering.

Describe the Students

1000 students, Title 1 school, 100% free lunch, 24% ESE, 52% below grade level in reading

Budget Narrative

These funds would be used to purchase an Oculus Rift + Touch Virtual Reality System to be used by all Bay Point Middle students in the media center. Teachers will be able to utilize the system with their classes or students on their own for exploration.
