Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

The 2017-18 Azalea Elementary Intermediate STEM Academy is so fortunate for the grant.  In less than two weeks our scholars will present their inventions at the Pinellas County Schools STEM Expo on April 28, 2018.  Additonally, the scholars will compete in the Florida Invention Convention on May 5, 2018.  The OK Go! Azalea Eagles Inventions consist of the following:

Group 1: Super Girls Poop Trap (These young ladies reinveted the Pooper Scooper by creating an entire body harness) This harness  has all of the capabilities of being sturdy, and durable but has an added component of having a poop bag attached which eliminates the need for stopping and cleaning up after Fido.  The Poop Trap will collect the waste and the only thing that the owner needs to do is snap off the bag dispose of and replace with a new bag.  The group made the harness out of the K'nex kits that your grant provided.

Group 2: Improved Cast - This young man wanted to make the cast user friendly by making the cast out of a durable, breathable material that was not only comfortable but flexible. The improved cast has a built in fan for added convenience.  This cast is built entirely from K'nex.

Group 3:Artic Wolve A's Soccerball Kickoff - These talented young ladies created a 21st century soccer ball with many functions and tracks the impact and measures the speed of your session.

Group 4: SR2000 Sticker Remover - Do you ever find yourself trying to remove a price sticker from a product?  If you have then you have at one time or another found yourself scraping the sticker off and left with sticky goo!  Yikes!  These scholars decided to create a sticker remover/scrapter without leaving a mess!

Group 5: All Paws Ahoy! I-Fetch - Do you like playing fetch with your pooch? If so, we have a product just for you...introducing the I-Fetch which throws Fido's favorite toy for hours of execise, entertainment and fun!

My scholars are ever grateful for your generosity and we can't wait to see how we fare at the expo and the convention. It will be such an honor to present the inventors with the materials that they used to build their creations so that they can continue their great work as the 2017-18 STEM Academy comes to a close.

Thanks so much!

Ms. Rushing and the AES Scholars!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will also be able to utilize 21st century technology (iPad) to collect and record data based on experiences and observations.

What will be done with my students

Students will begin to generate ideas based on the Engineering Design Process to recreate, modify and redesign simple machines.

Benefits to my students

This standards based curriculum will provide benefits such as but not limited to the following:

Prepare for and participate effectively in a range of conversations with diverse partners building, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.

Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
