Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 120

The outcome of this grant gives our whole grade level team the advantage of having guided reading books that are high interest to use in small groups.  Students are loving the titles that are included in the kit.  It has made planning and implementing guided reading go as smoothly as possible due to having the proper materials.  We have also reached out to another grade level for them to borrow some of the titles as well.  Thank you so much for the very generous contribution towards our children's learning.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To provide small group guided reading to all 4th grade students using Jan Richardson's Next Steps in Guided Reading and the leveled readers from Literacy Footprints.

What will be done with my students

Literacy Footprints will bring teachers through the process of planning a powerful guided reading lesson that integrates reading, writing, and word study. In using Literacy Footprints, teachers will implement effective lessons and will also be able to plan and deliver effective guided reading lessons using leveled texts.

Benefits to my students

Guided reading is a research-based approach to teaching reading that is an essential part of a balanced and comprehensive literacy program. This small-group reading instruction is designed to provide differentiated teaching to a broad range of learners in a classroom. The teacher uses a range of assessment tools to determine their students’ strengths and deficits, then places them into small groups according to instructional needs. This allows the teacher to focus precisely on what the students need to learn in order to advance.

Describe the Students

We are a 100% free/reduced lunch Title 1 school. Currently, we are servicing ESOL and ESE students within the general education classroom. Our classrooms are comprised of at least 25% low performing students, scoring a Level 1 or 2 on Florida Standards Assessment (FSA).

Budget Narrative

We are requesting one Literacy Footprints kid for the grade level team to share and a Teachers Guide (The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading) for each classroom teacher.
