Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

Our portable STEM /STEAM cart has enhanced our classroom learning.  The materials purchased have helped support our core lessons in science and other subject areas.  The students use the materials everyday, mostly during indoor recess.  We also use the items weekly to enrich our core instruction.  Since receiving the materials, other teachers have also checked out the cart and used the materials in their classrooms.  Many teachers are interested in using the cart in the future.  We look forward to using these materials for many years to come.  Thank you again for allowing us to have this opportunity with our students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To build a portable STEM / STEAM chart with lessons and activities to support student learning. This cart would be shared by five third grade teachers and our school Gifted teacher. We will continue to build lessons and enrich our cart resources each year.

What will be done with my students

Students will have many opportunities to choose STEM and/or STEAM based activities from a portable cart that will be shared with five third grade classrooms and the Gifted teacher. This will be an on going resource which will continue to engage and enrich students year after year.

Benefits to my students

Over one hundred students each year will increase their knowledge in science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on lessons. Students will be engaged in teacher directed and independent exploration daily with the use of materials provided from the STEM / STEAM cart.

Describe the Students

I teach the Third grade STARs class. My students all struggle with academic, behavior, and home issues. They need every support available to encourage and motivate them to succeed. I try to provide as many resources as possible, however I need help in purchasing items. These students may not have the opportunity to be exposed to highly engaging materials in their present situations. Our low struggling students will benefit with hands on materials to clarify their knowledge in each subject area. High performing and Gifted students will enrich their knowledge and deepen their independent learning processes by using materials supplied from our cart. ESE, ESOL, and other students with specific needs will be able to make important connections through exploring and engaging in experiences with the support of materials supplied from our cart.

Budget Narrative

This money would be used to purchase a portable STEM cart with various size storage tubs to share with other classes. A set of four STEM activity sets which include force and motion, simple machines, magnets, and sink and float activities with teacher guides will support the STEM cart. Also a portable Light Cube activity table is included to use so that the cart is an all in one center ready for daily use with multiple classrooms and students.

Items

# Item Cost
1 STEM Maker Station Cart $619.95
2 Bundle STEM Activity Sets $324.78
