Goal

To engage students in interesting and exciting activities that will promote STEM education and STEM careers using Dash and Dot robots and coding.

What will be done with my students

Students in grades 2-5 have been selected based on their academic achievement to participate in enrichment groups. These groups meet every other week for 45 minute sessions. Students will be able to learn coding skills utilizing robots - Dot and Dash. The Wonder Workshop using robots and tablet applications to teach students coding. Coding is an important 21st century learning skill. Students will become more engaged in STEM based lessons, coding, and robotics as a result. They will also be given the opportunity to participate in a free online robotics competition through the Wonder Workshop. These tools can also be used in an after school setting to further promote coding and STEM. Students will work in groups that will not only require them to program code, but work cooperatively to accomplish their task.

Benefits to my students

The students will become more engaged in their learning and more interested in STEM. I also believe that students will have more interest in careers related to STEM, specifically in robotics and coding, which will lead to further exploration and questioning. I believe that students will become excited about their learning. One teacher will be utilizing the materials with an option for a checkout system if additional teachers are interested. At this time, 48 students will benefit from the use of the Wonder Workshop but I believe that once the initial students begin exploring with robotics and coding additional students will express and interest.
