Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

Students made connections between Bernoulli's Principle, Newton's Laws, and the principles of flight to create and fly vehicles of thier design. Students implemented various ascpects of math to analyze force, trajectories, and identify statistical patterns pertaining to vehicles and force.

 

Students reported that the practical aplication of science and mathematics provided a venue to observe and experience wha tthey were learning, and therefore iprovide them with a more in-depth understanding.

Goal

To engage students in fun, interesting, and attention-getting activities to excite their interest in STEM education and STEM careers while investigating flight the future of solar engineering.  

 

What will be done with my students

Students will study Bernoulli's Principle and the forces on flight while designing air powered planes. Students will investigate aircraft design and create graphs of flights while manipulating variables. Students will also engage in a study of solar energy and its uses culminating in the creation of solar powered vehicles. 

 

Benefits to my students

Students will combine mathematics with science, technology, and engineering in a project-based lesson. Students will develop their interest in potential high school, college and career paths in aerospace technology, alternative energy, or other areas of engineering and design.

Budget Narrative

Students will create individual small rockets utilizing the Straw Rocket packs Pitsco Straw Rocket 30 Pack ($26.50 pk x 4)and Cap Plugs Pitsco Cap Plugs (for straw rockets) (pk of 100). Each student will also create their own AP Glider Pitsco AP Glider 30 Pack ($83.25 pk x 4) and solar vehicle Pitsco Solar Designer 25 pack ($275 pk x 2).
