Goal

to provide a nurturing and safe environment which meets the social, emotional and physical needs of diverse learners

What will be done with my students

Redesign classroom settings by providing flexible seating which will burn more calories, use excess energy, improve metabolism, increase motivation and engagement, by creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.

Benefits to my students

Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
Simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially.

Describe the Students

Northwest Elementary school is a neighborhood Title I school. Currently we are a CEP (Community Eligibility Program) school which qualifies us for 100% free and reduced lunch rate. Currently we have approximately 535 students: 58% White, 15% African American, 16% Hispanic, and the remaining 11% are made up of Multiracial, Asian and American Indian. We have 29 General Education classes for grades K-5, 2 Pre K classes and 3 EBD (ESE) classes. We have 148 ESE students. As we analyzed our FSA data we noticed a decline in all academic areas and most sub groups. Our FSA proficiency rates decreased from 52% to 45% in ELA and from 58% to 54% in Math.

Budget Narrative

We will provide a variety of flexible seating resources to teachers, prioritizing specific needs of individual students.
Each classroom teacher will receive a copy of the Restorative Circles text
