Original Grant Overview

Goal

With the help of a classroom library, I will be able to expose the students to new vocabulary and content they haven't seen before. We need our students to develop skills in vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension. Most students in our VE classes have a communication disorder and are language impaired. With the help of age appropriate books this will help the students succeed.

What will be done with my students

The students are the ones who will benefit directly with the stories being read to them. Students will be able to enjoy looking at books and retell stories based on looking at these picture books. With a fill classroom library students will have appropriate books for them to explore and go along with the themes and topics they are learning. Teachers introduce the vocabulary/concepts, students complete sequencing activity with the retelling sets.

Benefits to my students

This will help support literacy instruction in reading and writing. An effective classroom library provides a place for teachers to teach and children to learn about books and book selection. It allows students an chance for personal exploration and will be a gathering spot where students and teachers can express their lives as readers.
