With the help of the Matt and Molly Autism & PDD Picture Stories and Language Activities, the goal is to teach communication and literacy skills with familiar characters, predictable routines, and fun. We need our students to develop skills in vocabulary, grammar, representational play, sequencing, reading comprehension, predicting, identifying feelings, answering questions, and determining missing information. Most students in our VE classes have a communication disorder and several have Autism. This program will help every student in our class develop these skills.

What will be done with my students

The students are the ones who will benefit directly with the stories being read to them. They are interactive and hit on many skills our students need assistance with. With the program the students sing the Matt and Molly theme song, get introduced the daily story, they describe the picture cards. Teachers introduce the vocabulary/concepts, students complete sequencing activity, what's missing activity, match printed sentences to the corresponding picture, yes/no questions activity. Students answer wh- and how questions activity, preparing to act out the story activity.
