The students will be actively engaged in science experiments to encourage making predictions/hypothesis, taking and tracking data, and recording results. They will also be reflecting on the information through peer collaboration, teacher lessons, and informal assessments to show content knowledge.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 76

The students at Oldsmar Elementary had an amazing year exploring the world around them through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We were able to create an atmosphere of exploration through hands on experiments, learning and journaling across all content areas.  The children were able to participate in numerous experiments thoughout the year, we involved them in all aspects of the experiments from organizing the materials, completing the experiments, and journaling the results.

With the support of the community, and the grant, we were able to provide experiences to over 75 3, 4 and 5 year olds that opened their eyes to a whole new way and level of learning. We were able to give them a tremendous start in what will hopefully be a love of learning for a lifetime.

Liquids, Solids & Gas

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The students will be actively engaged in science experiments to encourage making predictions/hypothesis, taking and tracking data, and recording results. They will also be reflecting on the information through peer collaboration, teacher lessons, and informal assessments to show content knowledge.

What will be done with my students

We will be conducting a variety of experiments throughout the year to encourage expansion of scientific knowledge with a hands on approach.
Some of the experiments we will be conducting will be Life Cycles of plants, frogs and butterflies. The students will be creating the habitats for these experiments, as well as maintaining them.
We will be investigating matter with sink and float, mixing colors, reactions of materials from liquids, solids & gas, as well as many other KID friendly experiments.

Benefits to my students

The benefits of introducing science to students at a younger age is to expand their minds and to be able to start teaching their minds to understand the scientific method.
They will be able to explore observations, and recognize that many times we need recheck and repeat our first theories as new information emerges.
Most importantly, it is to encourage life long explorers, to question the world around them, and to always seek the answers they are wondering about.

Describe the Students

The Pre-K program is a mixture of ESE and Gen Ed students from 3 to 5 years of age. There are approximately 16 to 20 students in each class, and there are 4 classrooms.
Many of the students require hands on activities to cement the content knowledge being taught.

Budget Narrative

We will use these materials to encourage and enhance active engagement to explore and experiment with the world around them.
We will be creating Scientific journals to collect data, make predictions, track progress and create life long explorers who ask question and seek answers.
