Goal

Increase students ability to work cooperatively together to build a foundation for STEM

What will be done with my students

Students will be given design specifications to create a structure. The structure must meet certain criteria; use at least 32 blocks, shorter that 52 cm, at lease to levels of blocks, etc. The STEM design loop will be reviewed as well as a TEAM poster (Taking Turns, Everyone Participates, Attitudes are positive, Meet a common goal. )
Students love working together in our class papazon chairs, but unfortunately our classroom is tiled. I would like the plush turtles (which match our school mascot, Safety Harbor Sea Turtles) to give students and option to work comfortably on the tile floors when they are working in groups.

Benefits to my students

Students will build a foundation working together as a team. They will learn how to compromise, how to voice their opinions in a productive way and how to make adjustments in their thinking.
This will also help students begin to understand STEM and the design loop that Engineers often use.
In real-life kids will have to learn how to work together and many 3rd graders, and even STEM students, lack conflict resolution skills and cooperative skills. I hope this will instill a life-long skill of TEAM work and compromise.
