Goal

The goal of this project is to increase students' understanding of STEM related academic lessons in the classroom through increased visual, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences.

What will be done with my students

Items will be used with students to increase STEM related lessons that are engaging and hands-on infusing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math into the lessons into intra-curricular activities and projects.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of using hands-on materials that are engaging is the increased learning gains by students and the retention of the material presented during the projects. Because our students are typically visual and kinesthetic learners, STEM materials such as rockets, making slime, etc. help our students stay engaged and focus on new content. Our hope is that these lessons will help students learn to love math and science!

Describe the Students

Our school is a Center School in the Highest Poverty area with all students receiving free/reduced lunch. Our students are diagnosed with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders in addition to many other disabilities such as ASD, Oppositional Defiant Disorders, and Intellectual Delays. Our school focuses on Behavior Modification, with a goal of the students being able to reintegrate into "typical" academic schools. The majority of our students are low performers and need these types of hands on materials to increase learning.

Budget Narrative

$250 will be used as teacher curriculum materials, project ideas, lesson plans, etc. The remaining $750 will be used for materials to complete projects such as lab coats, safety wear, STEM kits, etc.
