Goal

To increase the understanding of algebraic equations using a hands on equation learning system.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to build algebraic equations using game pieces to physically represent and solve algebraic linear equations.

Benefits to my students

Students do not always understand the meaning of the equal sign in math. They come into the intermediate grades thinking that it means "answer". So often they are mystified when given problems such as...
86- 23 = 50 + 13
And they have no clue as to how to solve such equations. Using the Hands-On Equations Learning System simplifies the teaching of algebraic concepts making them more accessible to students in the intermediate grades.

Describe the Students

I have 22 diverse scholars in the 4th grade at a 100% free/reduce lunch Title 1 school. Within our community of learners, I have ESE, gifted, ESOL, and students serviced with a 504.

Budget Narrative

I am seeking to purchase a Hands-On Equations Learning System Class Set which includes a teacher demonstration scales as well as demonstration game pieces and 30 student kits. (Class size can increase to 29)
*I am willing to pay the excess over the $250 in order to receive this item!
