Goal

The goal of this project is to enhance the science AND reading curriculum of our 5th grade students!

What will be done with my students

These workbooks will be used for their numerous science based passages (almost ALL the nonfiction passages are on a science concept!), as well as in reading whole group and small group instruction.

The books have been used in my Extended Learning Program as a small group tutoring resource. As they were being used, we realized what a valuable resource they were for driving our reading instruction, AND that they reinforce science concepts that will be tested on the SSA!

Describe the Students

My students are my passion. I am extremely devoted to doing anything and everything I can to help them make learning gains. In addition, the students themselves desperately want to make learning gains and have opportunities to feel success and I truly feel the elements of this text will help them to do it.

My students are part of a Title 1 School. All students at our school suffer from low income and high poverty. 100% of our students receive free lunch. We have a mixture of ESE and low and high performers. A high percentage of our students are also ESOL students.

We follow a tight standards focus calendar as we are considered a transformation school and because of this the resources provided are not always appropriate or culturally relevant to our population. We would be incredibly thankful for this donation and there is no doubt it would be extremely beneficial for these students.
