Goal

The goal of this grant is to allow students to experience a museum and participate in a hands on lab making connections to a story through science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

What will be done with my students

Students will be given time to explore Great Explorations Children's Museum's hands on exhibits. Then they will participate in an interactive hands on lab where they will learn to make connections to stories with science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Benefits to my students

In first grade, students are making huge jumps in their reading capabilities. For many students who live in poverty, they have not been able to have experiences that will give them background knowledge to comprehend and make connections with what they are reading. Experiencing a museum with hands on exhibits can introduce them to concepts that they may not have experienced before; and the hands on STEAM lab will help students learn to make connections to different areas of their lives including science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
