Goal

We call ourselves PEARLS. We love mentoring these young ladies. Our goal is for them to take what we give them and apply it to their middle and high school years. We have girls coming back and visiting and thanking us. It is truly a wonderful experience for all of us!

What will be done with my students

We are a girl's club geared to 4th and 5th grade girls. They learn self-respect, self-esteem, etiquette, manners, being a friend, self-awareness, kindness, pride, how to love themselves, body changes, and all the fun and awareness about being a young lady.
We teach them to give back to the community, we do 2 service projects; a food drive and we collect money for children with illnesses. They solely run these service projects, they learn to work with each other, record items, count money, they deliver and stock shelves at food pantry. They learn to give and to help people in need. The learn passion for people who less fortunate. We beautify the school campus by cleaning up and planting donated plants around the school.
We tye-dye t-shirts purple, the girls wear these t-shirts at each meeting. It helps them buy into the club and they learn to take pride in being part of a group. We also supply them with a bag of personal hygiene supplies at out last meeting.

Benefits to my students

The benefit is for these young ladies to take with them all we have taught them about themselves, and for them to know that they can make a difference in their lives and others. We keep growing each year and it is hard to turn girls away. As mentors, we have learned a great from each and every girl that has been involved in our club. We are as grateful to them ad they are to us. We have girls visiting throughout their middle and high school years. We are blessed with each girl and what they bring to PEARLS.
Their last meeting is a banquet, donated by Olive Garden. The girls learn how to hold themselves like a young lady. They come to school dressed in a fancy outfit, we do their hair and make-up on this special day. They each receive a bag of personal hygiene items and the 5th graders receive a home-made pearl necklace.

Describe the Students

Our girls are from middle to low-socio economic families. They are a mixture of low to high academic performers. We typically choose young ladies who need guidance in self and body awareness, but we have been extending our membership to all girls.

Budget Narrative

We buy white t-shirts with coupons and when they are on sale. We also supply the dye and rubber bands for the girls to tye-dye with.
Each girl receives shampoo, conditioner, a loofah, nail polish, lip gloss, tooth brush, tooth paste, body wash and other items depending on budget.
Pearls hooks, and other supplies to make necklaces are purchased for 5th graders.
PTA helps out, but typically we supply items and it gets expensive.
